• Name:
David Murray
• Role:
I am the Food & Beverage Manager of the hotel, joining the team in July 2021.
• What is your role at Bishops Gate Hotel:
My role is to manage all areas of Food & Beverage across the hotel
• Outline a typical day in your role.
There is really no typical day, it all depends on what is happening in the hotel. You’ll fine me where I need to be, when I need to be there. You’ll find me greeting guests at the entrance, working in the restaurant, jumping behind the bar and working an event on the second floor, all in the same day.
• What is the best part of your job?
The best part is the fact that no two days are the same, I can definitely say that I am never bored. There is so much variation with my role due to managing different areas that I always have something to do. Whether its service in the bar & restaurant, one of the range of events that we cater for in the Northern Counties Ballroom or working on a new cocktail menu, there’s always something to keep me on my toes.
• Tell us something about yourself not many people may know?
At university I completed a degree in Biomedical Science. Rather than spending my days sitting in hospital labs, the hustle and bustle of hospitality pulled me in and I never looked back.
• Favourite Food or Drink Item from The Wig & Gown
It would be the Baked Alaska. Almost every time I sit one down in front of guests, I hear an audible gasp at how good it looks.
• What makes Bishop’s Gate Hotel Special?
There are so many ways to answer this question, but for me it is the staff. I am very fortunate to work with a great bunch of people. Every day I read through guest feedback and it’s wonderful to see so many of my team being mentioned, whether by name of just in general.
